Lot 1633 SCARCE PRE-WWII GERMAN FORESTRY OFFICIAL'S DAGGER
OR CUTLASS.A very fine example of a pre-WWII German Forestry Official's or Hunting Association dagger or cutlass measuring 21 1/4" overall with an etched blade marked " (logo) C. E. ". The engraved words " Ges Geschutzt " are on both sides of the blade just above the ricasso. Etching includes various hunting and forest scenes with a large variety of game animals. The spine is etched with an oak leaf and acorn motif. Nickel silver boar's head crossguard and down turned shell guard featuring a charging stag. Plain lineal decorated ferrule and pommel with a rudimentary finial. Stag horn grip with 3 acorns on the front. Scabbard body appears to be patterned leather with nickel silver mounts and an acorn frog stud. CONDITION: the blade has a pleasing finish with vivid etching. Hilt and scabbard show light wear with a pleasing patina. (02-24933/BF). NON-GUN. $600-900.
